PETA warns against leaving animals amid flooding
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Asia (PETA) on Wednesday asked the public to not leave their pets behind when evacuating, if possible, amid flooding brought by Typhoon Carina.
“If at all avoidable, never leave your animals behind to fend for themselves when evacuating,” PETA said in an advisory.
“Never tie animals up or leave them caged or confined in any way, as they will be trapped and unable to flee rising floodwaters,” it added.
Meanwhile, PETA said owners should ensure that pets have access to the second floor if there is one so they would be able to escape the flooding.
PETA also said that small animals should be secured in cages while dogs should be leashed during evacuation as frightening sounds and unfamiliar surroundings may make them bold.
Aside from this, owners should bring enough food and water for at least a week as well as their favorite toys or blankets.
“Watch for other animals in need, including strays and animals who have been left behind by neighbors,” PETA said.
Meanwhile, PETA said its emergency rescue line may be reached at 0999 888 PETA (7382).
