Senate, House suspend work due to inclement weather
Work in both the Senate and House of Representatives was suspended on Wednesday, July 24, due to the heavy rains brought by Typhoon Carina and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).
In an advisory, Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero declared the suspension of work at the Senate in light of the inclement weather, the forecast medium to heavy rains over Metro Manila and nearby areas, as well as the “deep flood” at the Senate entrance.
Session at the Senate will resume on July 29, Monday, at 3 p.m.
Likewise, a memorandum from the House of Representatives said that work at the lower chamber, including the conduct of the plenary session and committee hearings, is suspended for the day, citing weather reports by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The Office of the Executive Secretary earlier announced that government work and classes in all levels in the National Capital Region were also suspended on Wednesday.
As of 5 a.m., Typhoon Carina further intensified, with Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 hoisted over Babuyan Islands, the northern portion of mainland Cagayan, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte. —Giselle Ombay/KBK, GMA Integrated News
