Palace suspends gov't work, classes in NCR due to Carina, Habagat
Government work and classes in all levels are suspended in the National Capital Region on Tuesday afternoon amid the continuous rainfall brought by the effects of Typhoon Carina and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
Executive Lucas Bersamin confirmed to reporters the issuance of Memorandum Circular 57, which suspends government work and classes in all levels in Metro Manila beginning 2:00 p.m. today, July 23.
Meanwhile, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render necessary services.
The suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of the respective offices.
So far, the reported fatalities in Mindanao due to the recent weather disturbances have increased to eight, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) had said.
In its 11 a.m. bulletin on Tuesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 was raised over Batanes as Carina slightly intensified.
According to PAGASA, Batanes (Itbayat, Basco, Mahatao, Uyugan, Ivana) may experience gale-force winds ranging 62 to 88 km/h within the next 24 hours.
