DOJ starts distribution of 'survivorship benefits'

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday announced that it has started the distribution of survivorship benefits to qualified families of deceased retired prosecutors.

For the first batch, around 25 qualified beneficiaries will receive their benefits in the form of a cheque until July 31, according to the agency.

The benefits were given under Republic Act 11643 or an Act Granting Survivorship Benefits to the Surviving Legitimate Spouse and Dependent Children of a Deceased Retired Member of the National Prosecution Service (NPS) and Appropriating Funds Therefor.

“Our commitment to honoring our prosecutors goes beyond life, considering they have sacrificed so much in the administration of the criminal justice system,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said in a statement.

Remulla signed the IRR of the law in October 2023. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
