In President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr.'s Report to the People, it was stated that since the MCB received applications for compensation for loss of properties or lives due to the siege, the office obtained a total of 14,083 applications.

The report stated that the MCB has approved 387 claims amounting to P702,966,301.70 and disbursed P222,177,217.43 as of June 15, 2024.

In July 2023, the MCB opened the applications of claims including structural property, death, and personal property claims, among others.

Victims who lost their homes during the Marawi battle may claim a compensation of P18,000 per square meter for totally damaged structures. The MCB will also grant at least P350,000 to the families of those who died during the siege.

Around 17,800 households affected by the siege were also expected to receive financial aid, according to the MCB.

The siege, which started in May 2017, was perpetrated by the Maute Group and lasted for at least five months. Former President Rodrigo Duterte declared the city freed from the group in October of the same year. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
