Marcos: Irrigation dams to help ensure water supply

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has pointed to irrigation dams as additional sources of potable water to ensure water security across the country.

In his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 22, 2024, Marcos said that “moving forward, irrigation dams will supplement all our other bulk water projects to ensure water security for our people, especially in the underserved areas."

The President cited the LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) at BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency) as starting points towards sustainable water storage.

“Sa ating nasimulan sa proyektong LAWA at BINHI, isinasagawa na ang mga modernong imbakan ng tubig, upang lalong maging handa at protektado ang ating mga magsasaka sa banta ng tagtuyot,” Marcos said.

The country’s chief executive also touted the recently inaugurated Jalaur River Multipurpose Project-Stage II (JRMP-II) mega dam project in Iloilo province last week.
