Albay suspends outdoor, water activities due to bad weather
The Albay local government suspended outdoor and water activities due to inclement conditions brought by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
In a Monday advisory, Albay Gov. Edcel Greco Lagman said the bad weather may swell rivers and cause flooding.
Residents were also warned to avoid low-lying areas and crossing rivers.
Meanwhile, small sea vessels were advised to avoid sailing as Severe Tropical Storm Carina and the Habagat would bring moderate to rough seas over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon.
Local disaster responders were also directed to stay alert, particularly in locations exposed to flooding, lahar flows, flash floods, and landslides.
They were directed to take timely countermeasures and evacuate residents if needed.
PAGASA said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was hoisted over parts of northern Luzon as Carina continued to intensify and move steadily northwestward over the Philippine Sea.
Carina was expected to intensify into a typhoon within 12 hours and may exit the Philippine area of responsibility sometime between Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning, state meteorologists said. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
