NDRRMC on red alert for Carina, Habagat

NDRRMC on red alert for Carina, Habagat

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is on red alert as Severe Tropical Storm Carina and the southwest monsoon or Habagat continue to bring rain over the northern and western Philippines.

A red alert means that all NDRRMC personnel must be on duty 24/7 to respond to calamities.

“Isinasakatuparan naman ng iba’t ibang Regional DRRMCs ang mga tinukoy na emergency preparedness and response (EPR) protocols sa mga nagdaang pagpupulong,” the Office of Civil Defense said.

(The Regional DRRMCs are implementing the identified emergency preparedness and response protocols in the previous meetings.)

“Bukas ay nakatakdang magpulong ang NDRRMC Response Cluster upang muling pag-usapan ang sitwasyon, lagay ng panahon, at mga kinakailangang tugon sa mga apektadong lugar ng Habagat at Bagyong Carina,” it added.

(The NDRRMC Response Cluster will meet again tomorrow to discuss the situation, the weather status, and the needed responses in the areas affected by the Habagat and Carina.)

PAGASA said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was hoisted over parts of northern Luzon as Carina continued to intensify and moved steadily northwestward over the Philippine Sea.

State meteorologists expected Carina to intensify into a typhoon within 12 hours.

PAGASA added that Carina would remain far from the country's landmass and may exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
