Angara kicks off DepEd's Brigada Eskwela in Q.C.

A day after his oath-taking in Malacañang, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara joined other government officials on Saturday to kick-off the Brigada Eskwela in Commonwealth Elementary School in Quezon City.

Angara was joined by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority acting chairperson Romando Artes and QC Mayor Joy Belmonte.

In Bam Alegre’s report in Super Radyo dzBB, Angara also spearheaded the turnover of school supplies to the students.

Angara said that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s marching order on him was to prioritize the welfare of the teachers.

“Yung unang sinabi niya talaga ay alagaan yung mga teachers kasi sila yung nasa puso ng isang education system,” he told reporters.

(What he first told me was to take care of the teachers because they are the heart of the education system.)

“Naririnig natin yung mga reklamo nila. Parang mayroon diyan yung mga 15 taon, Teacher I pa lang sila. So ayusin namin yung promotion system sa gobyerno. Tignan natin yung mga benepisyo nila, yung teaching load nila, di ba minsan maraming ginagawa na naapektuhan na yung pagtuturo dahil maraming administrative na ginagawa,” Angara added.

(We are aware of their concerns. I think there’s a case where a teacher for 15 years is still at Teacher I level. So we will fix the promotion system in the government. We will also look into their benefits and their teaching load, because there are times that their teaching duties are being affected by administrative tasks.)

The Brigada Eskwela is DepEd's annual cleaning and maintenance activity in public schools nationwide in preparation for the new school year.

The school year 2024-2025 will begin on July 29, 2024.

Aside from Commonwealth Elementary School, Angara also visited other schools as well.
