7 reported dead, 1 missing due to LPA, Habagat in Mindanao— NDRRMC

Seven people were reported dead and one was reported missing due to the effects of the low pressure area and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday.

In its latest report, the NDRRMC said five of the seven fatalities have been confirmed while the remaining two are still undergoing validation.

Most of the deaths were recorded in Zamboanga with four reported fatalities. The other fatalities were recorded in Northern Mindanao, Davao, and Bangsamoro.

Some of the fatalities were recovered from a landslide and a river.

According to the NDRRMC, one person was reported missing in Northern Mindanao.

Two people were also reported injured in Northern Mindanao.

The affected population was 572,997 people or 117,676 families. Most of them were from Bangsamoro with 327,286 persons or 65,457 families affected.

A total of 22,253 people or 5,395 families were staying inside evacuation centers, while 327,001 people or 65,739 families were taking shelter in other places.

Due to the impact of the bad weather, 133 houses were damaged — 80 partially and 53 totally.

Damage to agriculture worth P17,879,687 was reported in Zamboanga and Northern Mindanao. For infrastructure, the cost of damage was P700,000 in Northern Mindanao.

Issues in power and water supply as well as in communication lines were encountered in some of the affected areas.

Assistance worth P15,762,303 has been given to victims so far, according to the NDRRMC. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
