1 out of 3 households experience food insecurity or lack of food — National Nutrition Council
One out of three households experience food insecurity or lack of food based on the data from the National Nutrition Council (NNC), according to a report on "State of the Nation."
The lack of food leads to malnutrition, according to NNC Assistant Secretary Azucena M. Dayanghirang.
Malnutrition is one of the causes of low intelligence quotient or IQ and stunted growth.
Filipinos born today only reach up to 52 percent of their potential because of lack of nutrition, the World Bank said.
In order to address the problem, the government and other private sector groups launched the "Kain Tayo Pilipinas" program.
The objective of the program, if not to eradicate hunger is to at least lower the number of people who lack food raise the nutrition level of pregnant women and newborn infants. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
