Pulse Asia: Marcos approval down 2 points, Sara up 2

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s nationwide approval and trust ratings went down by two and five percentage points, respectively, according to Pulse Asia's latest Ulat ng Bayan survey.

Comparing data in March and June this year, Pulse Asia said Marcos' approval rating went down from 55 to 53, while his trust rating decreased from 57 to 52, respectively.

The latest study also showed a two-point increase in the approval rating for Vice President Sara Duterte from 67 in March to 69 in June. Her trust rating in both months remained the same at 71 percentage points.

The biggest drop in Marcos' approval rating was from Luzon at nine percentage points, from 66 to 57. A two-point decrease in Marcos' approval was also recorded in Mindanao from 40 to 38.

Meanwhile, the President gained a 14-point increase in the National Capital Region from 47 to 61, and a two-point increase in Visayas from 54 to 56.

Marcos' approval rating also dropped by 13 percent among Class ABC while a three-point drop was recorded in Class D.

In the Class E income bracket, Marcos had a four-point gain.

For Duterte, her approval rating went up by 12, 16, and three points in NCR, Visayas, and Mindanao, respectively. A decrease of seven percentage points was only recorded in Luzon.

Among the economic brackets, Duterte's approval rating leaped by 17 points in Class E from 65 to 82. However, her approval rating among Class ABC went down by 6. A minimal increase of one point was recorded in Class D.

Romualdez, Escudero

The same survey showed a two-point increase in Speaker and Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez's approval rating from 34 to 36.

His approval rating in Visayas went up by 26 percentage points from 33 in March to 59 in June. A slight increase was recorded in Luzon (+2%) and a slight decrease was noted in Luzon (-3%).

Romualdez's approval rating in Mindanao remained the same at 25 percent.

Meanwhile, his trust rating gained by four points from 31 to 35.

A huge leap in his trust rating was seen in Visayas with a 30-point increase from 27 to 57. Slight increases were recorded in NCR (+4%) and in Mindanao (+3).

However, his trust rating was down by five in Luzon.

Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero, who was elected as the new Senate chief in May, got a nationwide trust rating of 69 percentage points.

This came from 75% in NCR, 71% in Luzon, 67% in Visayas, and 64% in Mindanao.

His trust rating was high in Class E at 74%, 69% in Class D, and 63% in Class ABC.

In an ambush interview, Escudero thanked the Filipinos for trusting not only him, but the Senate as an institution.

The Senate president said they will still work on what they think is right regardless of the survey results.

"Tulad ng ibang survey tataas 'yan, bababa 'yan. Kung mataas 'yan, inspirasyon 'yan para sa amin. Kung mababa man 'yan e di pwedeng aral at leksyon na pwedeng pagpulutan namin yan para magsumikap pa," he said.

"Pero sa dulo mataas man o mababa, patuloy naming paninindigan at gagawin kung ano ang paniniwala naming tama at dapat para sa ating bansa at sa ating mga kababayan," he added.

(Just like in other surveys the results will go up, they will go down. If they are up, it inspires us. If they are down we can learn lessons that will help us strive harder.

Whatever the results, we will continue to uphold and work for what we believe is right and just for our country and our citizens.)

In a separate statement, Romualdez said his improved score is a validation of the House’s efficient work.

“We are happy that we are gaining the people’s trust as the House leader. These results are a clear affirmation of the diligent work and dedication demonstrated by my colleagues here at the House of Representatives,” Romualdez said.

The Speaker said the House remains committed to implementing policies, programs and projects that will have a genuinely positive impact on the lives of Filipinos, including working tirelessly toward lowering the price of rice.

“Leading this institution has been an honor, and the people’s continued trust and approval inspires us to strive for excellence in all our endeavors. The welfare of the Filipino people remains our top priority,” said Romualdez, who is a cousin of President Marcos, Jr.

“We are determined to deliver on our promises," Romualdez added.— VDV/RF, GMA Integrated News
