Over 500 amnesty applications received by local boards —NAC
The National Amnesty Commission (NAC) has received a total of 578 amnesty applications as of July 12, 2024, according to the agency on Monday.
Of that number, a total of 497 were former members of the Communist Party of the Philippines - New People's Army - National Democratic Front (CPP - NPA - NDF).
Meanwhile, two applicants were from the Rebolusyonaryong Partidong Manggagawa ng Pilipinas / Revolutionary Proletarian Army / Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPMP-RPA-ABB).
On the other hand, a total of 33 former rebels were from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) while 46 others were from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).
The NAC said that with more Local Amnesty Boards being established in accessible cities or provinces, more rebels will be encouraged to return to the fold of the law and start a normal life.
In April, Marcos ordered the immediate implementation of the amnesty program for the remaining communist rebels.
