Cebu Pacific plane gets stuck on grass at NAIA; flight delays expected

Plane overshoots NAIA runway; flight delays expected

A Cebu Pacific plane got stuck on the grassy portion of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) taxiway on Friday morning, causing ramp congestion.

According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the incident occurred while Cebu Pacific Air A-321 was repositioning from Bay 111 to Bay 122A of NAIA Terminal 3.

"There were no passengers or crew onboard and no injuries reported at the time of the incident," MIAA said in a statement.

MIAA said its aircraft recovery team is already working on the removal of the aircraft from the area.

"Due to the incident, Bays 110-112 are temporarily unavailable for use leaving three (3) parking bays available for wide-body aircraft," it said.

MIAA said it is seeking the understanding of passengers whose flights may be affected due to expected delays in flight schedules.

"They are advised to wait for airline announcements regarding revised timings," it said.

In a separate statement, Cebu Pacific apologized for any inconvenience caused by its disabled aircraft.

"This situation is causing ramp congestion and subsequent delays in our operations," Cebu Pacific said "Our team is actively working to resolve this issue promptly."

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and sincerely appreciate your understanding," the airline added. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
