DHSUD chief admits challenge in completing 6M housing units until 2028

Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar on Monday admitted that it would be difficult to complete the target of six million housing units until 2028.

During the pre-SONA briefing, Acuzar explained that while there is no problem with funds, the construction of these housing units has been challenging.

''Dati po ang usapan six million, ganito po 'yun eh, may katotohanan doon sa drawing pero sa construction mahihirapan... kasi nga 'yung buildings three years to construct pero 'yung latag, 'yung six million mailalatag mo, with the land, planning, and funding... through private sector money,'' Acuzar said.

(Before, the target was six million, there is truth in the drawing. However, the construction has been challenging. It's because it could take three years to construct the buildings. You could plan with the land and funds from the private sector.)

Acuzar said urban areas or cities lack idle lands where housing units could be built.

The Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Housing (4PH) Project aims to build one million housing units annually until 2028 to address the housing backlog in the Philippines.

Asked about the challenges being encountered in the construction of houses, Acuzar already said before that it is difficult for them to search for idle lands where the units will be built.

Acuzar also mentioned the delay being experienced because of the bidding process. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
