BI re-arrests Chinese national for overstaying

The Bureau of Immigration nabbed an overstaying Chinese national who had previously been detained by the Philippine National Police.

According to a Saturday BI statement, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group had arrested 32-year-old Liu Yuhang in May for illegal possession of firearms and suspected hacking equipment.

“The discovery of such equipment raised significant concerns about potential security threats,” the statement read.

The BI’s intelligence Division arrested the suspect once more for being an undesirable alien and for overstaying.

According to the BI, Liu had arrived in the country on July 18 and only had a visa valid until August 2022.

“Foreign nationals that pose a threat to security should be arrested and deported,” said BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco.

Liu is currently detained at the BI facility in Bicutan, Taguig, pending deportation. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
