LP trying to convince Robredo to run for senate as alliances form for 2025 polls

At the approach of the 2025 national elections, political parties are now gearing up to form potential alliances for the upcoming polls.

The Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) may be adding the Nacionalista Party (NP) into their alliance, according to a 24 Oras report by Jonathan Andal on Wednesday.

“We are in the process of firming up the alliance between the Nacionalista and the Partidong Federal ng Pilipinas... and we would like to align with them in order that we can show and manifest the support of the party sa lahat ng programa ng ating Pangulo sa pagpapabago ng Pilipinas at sa pagpapaunlad nito. Baka bago matapos ang buwan na ‘to ay magkakaroon kami ng signing. (for the President’s programs aimed at transforming and making the country prosperous. Before this month ends, we will have a signing.)” said Nacionalista  member and House Representative Ace Barbers.

PFP President and South Cotabato Governor Jun Tamayo also said that there was still no final discussion as both parties are still in the process of negotiating their terms.

Meanwhile, the opposition Liberal Party said they are considering four senatorial bets and may not complete the 12 slots for the senatorial slate due to limited funding.

LP is trying to convince former vice president Leni Robredo to run for a senator despite her current intent to run for mayor of Naga City.

“It's a continuing effort but we always respect her decision. If she will run for a local position, we are asking her to be active in the national campaign,” said Liberal Party president and Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman.

When asked about the suggestion of former senator Antonio Trillanes IV for the “pink forces” to form an alliance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. following the reported intent of the Duterte family to run for senatorial positions, Lagman denied any possible partnerships.

“We are not seriously considering any alliance with the Duterte forces or the Marcos forces,” he said.

The Liberal Party is currently part of a coalition with Magdalo and partylist Katipunan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino.
