BI nabs wanted Chinese fugitive

The Bureau of Immigration arrested a Chinese national tagged as a fugitive in China.

According to a statement by the BI on Friday, 27-year-old Lui Xinya attempted to extend his visa at the BI head office in Intramuros, Manila on  Wednesday.

Upon checking his passport details, Luo was found to be the subject of a deportation order in 2023 due to a standing detention warrant issued by the Chongqing Hechuan District Public  Security Bureau of the People’s Republic of China.

“He probably thought he could continue hiding in the country despite his arrest warrant in China. What he doesn’t know is that our system is connected to the BI’s centralized database of derogatory records,  allowing us to immediately detect those with deportation orders,” said  BI Tourist Visa Section Chief Raymond Remigio.

Luo was arrested as an undesirable alien and ordered deported.

He is currently detained at the BI’s warden facility in Bicutan, Taguig pending deportation.

"Our centralized immigration system is crucial in identifying and apprehending individuals with derogatory records. The swift turnover of  Luo Xinya demonstrates our commitment to national security," said BI  Commissioner Norman Tansingco. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
