Case of stolen identity? Hontiveros bares NBI document showing another 'Alice Leal Guo'

Senator Risa Hontiveros on Wednesday questioned the real identity of suspended Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo, as she bared a document from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) showing a picture of another woman with a name Alice Leal Guo.

At the continuation of the Senate investigation into the raided POGO hub in Bamban where Guo is being linked, Hontiveros said the NBI document showed that the two Alice Leal Guos have the same birthday, July 12, 1986, and that their names have the same spelling.

According to Hontiveros, the two Guos also declared Tarlac as their place of birth.

"Is it a coincidence na may dalawang (that there are two) Alice Leal Guo na pinanganak (who were born) on July 12, 1986, sa Tarlac?  Is it a coincidence that this NBI clearance was applied for just a few days before the date of filing of the delayed registration of birth of the other Alice Leal Guo in Tarlac City? Or is this a case of stolen identity?" Hontiveros asked.

"Has Guo Haping assumed the identity of a Filipino woman and then nearly a decade later, ran for public office? Sino po ang babaeng ito na may pangalang Alice Leal Guo pero hindi kamukha ni Mayor? Nasaan na po siya ngayon?" she added.

(Who is this woman who is named Alice Leal Guo but doesn't resemble the mayor? Where is she now?)

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian earlier presented records from the Board of Investments of the Guo family's application for a Special Investors Resident Visa (SIRV). The documents showed one Guo Hua Ping entering the Philippines on January 12, 2003 when she was still 13 years old.

"Alice Guo might be Guo Hua Ping who entered the Philippines on January 12, 2003 when she was 13 years old. Her real birth date is on Aug 31, 1990," Gatchalian said.

Hontiveros said she already requested the NBI for the biometrics of Guo Hua Ping and Mayor Alice Guo to compare their fingerprints.

Armed with the NBI document, Hontiveros asked, "Bakit kailangan ni Guo Hua Ping nakawin ang pagkatao ni Miss Alice Leal Guo kung mayroon na siyang validly-issued investor's visa na papahintulutan siya mamalagi dito?"

(Why would Guo Hua Ping steal the identity of Miss Alice Leal Guo if she already has a validly issued investor's visa that will allow her to legally stay here?)

Guo was not able to answer these questions as she was not present during Wednesday's hearing. According to her lawyer Stephen David, she could not attend the hearing because she was "sick and stressed."

Guo is at the center of the Senate investigation into the raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) hub in Bamban after several seized documents showed that she was personally involved in the processing of documents for its operations.

Guo's citizenship was also questioned due to her inconsistent testimonies about her background and the supposed dubious documents regarding her Filipino citizenship. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
