PNP begins security preps for Eleksyon 2025

The PNP has started preparing for the security of the 2025 national and local elections.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said it has started preparing for the security of the 2025 national and local elections.

“Our commitment is to safeguard the democratic process and ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted in a secure environment,” PNP chief Police General Rommel Marbil said in a statement.

“By cracking down on illegal firearms, drug syndicates, and armed groups, we aim to protect our citizens and uphold the rule of law,” he added.

The PNP will closely coordinate with local government units (LGUs) and other law enforcement agencies as they focus on launching frequent operations in “hotspots” of these illegal activities.

Checkpoints and police operations will be increased based on intelligence gathered. The public is also encouraged to report suspicious activities.

“Illegal firearms and private armed groups pose a significant threat to public safety and the integrity of our elections. By removing these threats, we are not only ensuring a safer campaign period but also instilling confidence in our electoral system,” Marbil said.

“We urge the public to cooperate with the authorities by providing information that can help us locate and apprehend those involved in these illegal activities.” he added.

Aside from the deployment of 85% of its personnel, the PNP will also send more resources and police officers to “election areas of concern.”

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier released the calendar of activities for the 2025 midterm elections and the first BARMM parliamentary polls. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
