VP Sara speaks up about alleged scar on neck

Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday spoke about the supposed scar on her neck, which had netizens speculating where it came from.

In a video circulating on social media, Duterte was asked in Bisaya by an unknown person about what happened to her neck.

"Sinubukan nila akong i-gurgur pero hindi sila nagtagumpay," she answered, smiling.

(They tried to slash me but they didn't succeed.)

Duterte's alleged neck wound was first noticed on social media when she attended the Independence Day celebration in Davao City on June 12.

A week later, on June 19, she resigned as Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) and vice chairperson of National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), effective July 19, 2024.

GMA News Online requested further details from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) regarding the matter, but it has yet to respond as of posting time.

Last Tuesday, Duterte said that what she said in the video needed no interpretation.

"Hindi naman na siguro kailangan i-interpret 'yun. Very straightforward 'yun. Tinanong ako kung ano ang sugat na nasa leeg ko at sinabi ko na sinubukan nila akong i-gurgur pero hindi sila nagtagumpay," she said in an ambush interview in Cagayan de Oro.

(There is no need to interpret that. That's very straightforward. I was asked what was the wound on my neck and I said that they tried to slash me but they didn't succeed.)

"Silang lahat (all of them)," she added when asked who she was referring to. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
