Rodrigo Duterte, sons Baste, Paolo eyeing 2025 Senate bid —VP Sara
Former President Rodrigo Duterte and his two sons are all planning to run for the Senate in the 2025 midterm elections, Vice President Sara Duterte said Tuesday.
In an ambush interview in Cagayan de Oro, the Vice President said that her brothers, Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte and Davao City First District Representative Paolo Duterte will seek Senate seats next year.
“Lahat sila raring na tumakbo eh. Si PRRD (President Rodrigo Roa Duterte) senator, ‘yung kuya ko si Paolo Duterte, ‘yung congressman ngayon, senator. Si Sebastian Duterte,” she said.
(All of them are raring to run—PRRD, my brother Paolo, and Sebastian.)
“Tatlo ang Duterte next year… yes, confirmed ‘yan,” she added.
(Three Dutertes will be running next year. That’s confirmed.)
Twelve seats will be available in the Senate next year.
Sara, who spoke in Bisaya, also announced that Baste Duterte will be running for president in the 2028 national and local elections.
She said that her mother advised her to go back to Davao City to run again as mayor.
Asked if she will be resigning as Vice President following her resignation as Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd), Sara said, “Walang ganon na usapan (There are no talks about that).”
