Ex-Pres. Noynoy Aquino remembered for arbitral ruling on 3rd death anniversary
As they commemorated his third anniversary, the family of former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III remembered his bravery in asserting the Philippines’ sovereign rights over the West Philippine Sea.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kris Aquino, Noynoy’s younger sister, shared a video that recounted the events in the WPS.
“We must protect what rightfully belongs to the Philippines ???????? especially in the West Philippine Sea!!!” the younger Aquino said.
Former Senator Bam Aquino, Noynoy’s cousin, honored the former President by sharing a video of his speech on Facebook.
“We remember your bravery, honesty, and excellence, PNoy. Thank you so much for defending the nation against abusers before, and for your deep love for our beloved Philippines,” the former senator said in his post.
Aquino died in 2021 due to renal disease secondary to diabetes.
Noynoy Aquino’s family, friends, and supporters also commemorated his death with a Mass at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City.
In a 501-page ruling, the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, Netherlands invalidated China’s nine-dash line claim over the South China Sea in 2016.
Initiated by President Noynoy Aquino's government, the arbitration case was filed in January 2013. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
