Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill to be held June 28 —OCD

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is gearing up for the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) for the second quarter to be held on Friday, June 28, at 2 p.m.

The NSED is being held as part of preparations for the so-called “The Big One”, a possible magnitude 7.2 earthquake that may be triggered by a movement in the West Valley Fault, according to a report by Sam Nielsen on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday.

During the drill, the public is expected to participate by doing the Duck, Cover, and Hold postures.

The OCD is preparing for the NSED together with other government agencies and local government units.

The NSED this second quarter will put to test the Harmonized National Contingency Plan, with alternate emergency operation centers to be installed in strategic areas.

The OCD admits that the NSED, although helpful, is not enough to prepare for the effects of a large earthquake.

The agency thus also reminded the public to employ engineering solutions and comply with the Building Code.
