Socks under NAIA-3 chairs yield dollar bills worth over P1 million

A pair of socks that was found under the chairs past the immigration counters at the NAIA Terminal 3 yielded US dollar bills worth over a million pesos.

According to a report on "24 Oras," building attendant Rosalinda Cellero was sweeping the area when she chanced upon the socks.

Upon examination, the socks contained $18,000 worth more than P1 million.

In a statement on Thursday, the Manila International Airport Authority commended Cellero for her honesty. She will be given a certificate of commendation.

“We are delighted to have individuals like Rosalinda who exemplify strength of character and righteousness in the face of tempting situations," MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines said.

"Her action is a testament to the values we uphold in NAIA. Truly, there are angels in our midst,” he added.

The MIAA has completed reviewing CCTV footage to identify the owner of the socks and what led to the incident.

The agency is calling on the owner of the lost item to coordinate with the office, and prove rightful ownership and retrieve the amount. —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
