PNP chief Marbil orders intensified patrols, police presence nationwide

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil on Wednesday ordered an increase in patrol operations nationwide to enhance police visibility and ensure rapid response.

According to the PNP, the directive involves foot patrols—where officers engage directly with the community in urban centers, residential areas, and other high-traffic locations—and motorcycle patrols, where motorcycle units will watch over key areas to quickly respond to incidents and emergencies.

The order also mandates intensified Oplan Galugad operations, which focuses on searches and inspections in designated areas, and Oplan Sita, which involves checkpoints and routine stops to check for compliance and prevent movement of illegal items.

As part of the effort, Marbil ordered 85% of police officers to be actively engaged in field duties, reducing the number of lawmen assigned to office work.

"We are committed to making our communities safer by ensuring a strong police presence in public spaces. This initiative is designed to not only prevent crime but also to build trust and rapport with the communities we serve," Marbil said in a statement.

The PNP said the directive is in line with the instruction of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos.

Marbil urged cops to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and community engagement during the intensified operations.

"Our goal is to protect and serve the public with integrity and dedication. We must work hand in hand with our communities to create an environment where everyone feels safe and secure," he said

For his part, Abalos expressed support for the directive, saying that the safety and security of Filipinos is the PNP's top priority.  — VDV, GMA Integrated News
