PH, US, Japan, Canada conduct maritime activity in WPS
The Philippines, Japan, the United States, and Canada carried out a multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity in the West Philippine Sea.
According to Armed Forces of the Philippines Public Affairs Office chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad, the maritime activity took place on Sunday, June 16, within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone.
In a tweet, Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya reaffirmed Tokyo's commitment ''to strengthen regional and international cooperation to realize a 'Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).'''
In April, it was reported that the Philippines, the US, and Japan were looking at more combined naval training and exercises together.
The three countries also vowed to strengthen their cooperation in efforts to promote domain awareness, along with humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
Manila is also set to receive support for its defense modernization programs and projects from its partners. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
