VP Sara Duterte urges prayers for PH’s peace, safety on Eid'l Adha

In observance of Eid'l Adha, Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday called on the Muslim community to pray for the country’s peace and safety from calamities and other tragedies.

In a statement, Duterte also told Muslims to remember and put into practice the essence of sacrifice, gratitude, and humility.

“Mahalaga na mapalaganap natin ang diwa ng Eid al-Adha ngayong marami sa ating mga kababayan ang nangangailangan ng ating kabutihang loob, kawang-gawa, at malasakit,” she said.

(It’s important that we share the spirit of Eid al-Adha now that many of our countrymen need our kindness, charity, and concern.)

“Ang aming pakikiisa sa pagdiriwang na ito ay tanda ng ating ugnayan bilang isang bansa na mas pinatibay ng ating paggalang, pagtanggap, at pagmamahal sa isa't isa sa kabila ng magkaibang salita, relihiyon, o paniniwala.”

(Us celebrating this occasion is a symbol of our unity as a nation that is further strengthened by our respect, acceptance, and love for one another despite differences in our language, religion, or beliefs.)

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr., in his Eid'l Adha message, also called on the public, including Filipino Muslims, to be courageous even at the expense of the nation's security.

Eid’I Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, is a major holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide for three to four days with most of them attending the special prayers at major mosques and Islamic centers throughout the world.

It is considered as the second of two great Muslim festivals, the first being Eid'l Fitr.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
