BI intercepts Korean man on INTERPOL red notice list

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Thursday said it recently intercepted a Korean citizen who is included in the red notice list of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).

The BI said 28-year-old Kim Yonghun was boarding a flight to Incheon, South Korea at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last June 3 when his name registered a positive hit in the INTERPOL’s list.

"Since he was departing to Korea, we subsequently allowed him to board his flight after informing our counterparts in Seoul about his impending arrival there. Thus, he was arrested upon his arrival at the Incheon Airport where Seoul policemen were waiting for him,” said BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco.

The bureau said the Korean is wanted in South Korea for robbery and physical injuries after he abducted and detained his victim at an undisclosed location in Cheonan-si last April.

“He allegedly demanded money from the victim, repeatedly punched the face, burned his body with cigarettes, and threatened to stab him with scissors,” said BI.  “Kim then robbed the victims’ belongings, including his cellphone, bag and cash, and ran away.”

As a result, the victim suffered a ruptured eardrum, eye contusion and burns that necessitated four weeks of medical treatment,” the bureau also said.

An arrest warrant was issued by a district court in Daejeon City last May 22.

The BI has already blacklisted the Korean man which bars him from re-entering the Philippines. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
