MWSS to seek higher Angat water allocation for rest of June
The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) on Tuesday said it will be seeking higher allocation from the Angat-Ipo-La Mesa water system for the rest of June to ensure there will be no water interruptions in Metro Manila and its nearby areas.
In a chance interview with reporters, MWSS Administrator Leonor Cleofas said the agency will ask the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) to increase its allocation for June 16 to 30 period to 52 cubic meters per second (cms) from the current 51 cms.
“We want to be assured that there will be no water interruption,” Cleofas said.
The MWSS administrator, however, clarified that even if the NWRB allocates 50 cms, the normal allocation, “there will be no water interruption” since it is already the rainy season.
“But [the additional]… would be a stand by just in case,” Cleofas said.
Meanwhile, to ensure that leakages will be plugged in the Angat-Ipo system, the MWSS is constructing the Angat Water Transmission Improvement Project Tunnel No. 5.
Cleofas said the Tunnel 5 will be a redundancy for the existing pre-war aqueducts of the Angat-Ipo system.
She said the intake structure of the Tunnel 5 is targeted to be completed by February next year. — Ted Cordero/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
