Almost 88M Filipinos register for national ID — PSA

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Friday said that almost 88 million Filipinos have registered for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) ID or national ID so far.

According to Deputy National Statistician Fred Sollesta, the government is nearing its 92 million target for 2024.

“‘Yung remaining segment of the population na hindi pa nag register hinihikayat talaga namin na magpa rehistro na kayo para at least ma-experience niyo rin ‘yung advantages,” he said on Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

(We are encouraging the remaining segment of the population that remains unregistered to register so you can experience the advantages.)

He added that the PhilSys ID will be the strongest verification of an individual’s identity.

“‘Yung ibang institution nga na nag re-require pa ng dalawang ID, pero ‘pag pinapakita ‘yung national ID ay sapat na yun na isa lang… kasi ‘yung national ID natin ay mave-verify mo siya,” Sollesta said.

(Some institutions require two IDs, but when you show your national ID, they will allow it… because the national ID can be verified.)

Sollesta said that the PSA has distributed 51.5 million physical cards while 3 million is currently being distributed.

Meanwhile, he said that 25 million ePhilIDs, the digital version of the national ID that is printed at registration centers, have been generated and issued. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
