Marcos congratulates Narendra Modi for historic win

President Marcos Jr. congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his victory in the largest democratic election in India

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his victory in the largest democratic election in India, which secures him a third consecutive term.

Following Modi's win, Marcos is optimistic that Philippines and India's bilateral relations will be strengthened.

''My warmest congratulations to Prime Minister @narendramodi for securing a fresh mandate from the Indian electorate,'' Marcos said in a tweet.

''The last decade has shown India as a sincere friend to the Philippines and I look forward to the further strengthening of our bilateral and regional partnership in the years ahead,'' he added.

International reports said that the United States, Russia, China and other countries already sent their congratulations as Modi’s government began preparations for his swearing-in for a record third term.

In March, the Indian government invited Marcos for a state visit to India. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India's Minister of External Affairs, conveyed the invitation during his courtesy call on Marcos.
