NDRRMC: Over 51K people affected by Aghon
A total of 51,659 people or 16,336 families were affected by Typhoon Aghon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday.
In its latest report, the NDRRMC said most of the affected population were reported in Calabarzon with 25,980 and Bicol with 10,476.
Of the affected population, 14,816 people or 3,878 families were staying in evacuation centers while 6,409 families or 1,585 individuals were taking shelter in other places.
Reuters on Tuesday reported seven deaths due to Aghon.
Among the deceased were two men, aged 56 and 22, who drowned, and a 39-year-old man who was hit by a falling tree. Six of the seven reported fatalities are from Quezon province.
At least 22 houses in Eastern Visayas were damaged, according to the NDRRMC.
Of the 109 cities and municipalities affected by power outages, 80 have their supply back. Water supply has been restored in eight of the nine affected areas. Communication lines were also back in three of four affected areas.
Twelve flights, 11 domestic and one international, were canceled due to Aghon but seven domestic and one international flights have resumed.
Of the 60 affected seaports, 50 returned to normal operations. A total of 142 passengers and one vessel were still stranded in Central Visayas.
Classes were suspended in 117 areas and work schedules in 72 areas due to Aghon.
Assistance worth P4,124,147 has been provided to the victims in CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol, and Central Visayas, according to NDRRMC.
Based on PAGASA's latest bulletin, Aghon, the first cyclone to hit the Philippines this year, is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday morning or afternoon. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
