Marcos, VP Sara's trust and performance ratings declined — OCTA survey

Though majority of Filipinos continue to trust President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte, declines in their ratings were shown in the latest survey results of OCTA Research.

The survey, conducted from March 24 to 27, 2024, indicated that most adult Filipinos continue to trust (69%, -6) and approve (65%, -6) the performance of Marcos in the first quarter of this year.

The 69% trust rating of Marcos, however, was lower by six percentage points when compared to the 75% trust rating obtained following a survey conducted in December 2023.

Results of the survey showed that across major areas, Marcos' trust rating in March 2024 ranged from 48% to 79%. His highest trust rating was in Balance Luzon (79%), and his lowest trust rating was in Mindanao (48%).

Meanwhile, the majority of adult Filipinos also continue to trust (68%, -9) and approve (64%, -11) Duterte's performance in the first quarter of 2024.

The survey showed that this rating was nine percentage points lower than the 77% trust rating from the December 2023 survey.

Duterte's trust ratings ranged from 57% to 95%. Her highest trust rating was in Mindanao (95%), and her lowest was recorded in Balance Luzon (57%).

GMA News Online reached out to the Marcos and Duterte camps on the survey results but they have yet to respond as of posting time.

In December 2023, OCTA Research conducted the survey wherein the President’s trust rating rose to 76%, 3 percent higher than the third quarter survey. In terms of his performance his 71% rating is significantly higher than the 65% he recorded last October.

Duterte, for her part, gained a 77% trust rating, higher than the 75% she recorded in the third quarter survey. Also 75% of adult Filipinos said they are satisfied with her performance, higher than the 70% she scored in the third quarter of last year.

Other officials

Meanwhile, most adult Filipinos also continue to trust and approve the performance of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez in the first quarter of 2024 despite declines in ratings.

According to OCTA, their trust and performance ratings decreased by 3 percent—within the margin error—in the 1st quarter of 2024 compared to the last quarter of 2023. Their first quarter ratings remain statistically unchanged compared to the previous quarter, OCTA added.

Further, Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo got a trust rating of 15%, eight percentage points lower than the 23% rating from the survey conducted in December 2023. Only 9% of adult Filipinos distrust him, while 76% are undecided.

A total of 1,200 male and female probability respondents aged 18 years and above were interviewed for the study. It had a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level.

Subnational estimates for the geographic areas covered in the survey have the following margins of error at a 95% confidence level: ±6% for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
