52% of Pinoy Gen Zs prefer to work abroad, says study

At least 52 % of Pinoy Gen Zs prefer to work abroad while 48% opt to stay in the country, according to the study of a health insurance provide.

In the report of EJ Gomez on "Saksi," the PhilCare Wellness Index: An updated ABC of Pinoy Gen X, Y, and Z study shows that Gen Zs or individuals born between 1997 and 2015 want to experience new culture and personal growth that will also increase their competitiveness and marketability in the global job market.

Gen Zs are considered fully digital native because they grew up in the world of social media and smart phones.

Clinical Psychologist Rainier Ladic explained that since the Gen Zs are one of the generations that have experienced technological advancement, it is easy for them to gather information and to see the kind of life that they can lead outside the country.

"Mataas ang kanilang personality na openness to experience sa mga Gen Zs na nagmo-motivate sa kanila to try something new," said Ladic.

Gen Zs who prefer to work abroad also have their own economic reasons.

"Better pay na trabaho. Dahil sa patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng mga bilihin at hindi pagtaas ng sahod," Ladic added.

The study also showed that many Gen Zs prefer to work independently because they feel pressured and are anxious when doing group tasks.

"The mere fact that their work will be observed and evaluated so they feel all the more anxious working with groups. Working in groups, may not show yung skills na meron sila kasi always in group yung nakikita," said Ladic.

"So gusto din ng Gen Zs nama-maximize yung freedom and this includes yung pakiramdam na nadi-direct nila sarili nila and they could achieve this by working independently," he added. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
