LTO chief assures zero backlog on license cards, plates by July

Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Atty. Vigor Mendoza on Tuesday assured that there would be no more backlogs in releasing driver's license cards and plates starting this July.

At a Palace press briefing, Mendoza said he had a meeting with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. wherein he told the Chief Executive that the supply of license cards and plates was sufficient for this year.

"Dahil nga dito by July 1 of this year, dapat wala na pong backlog... we can see, on track po tayo diyan," Mendoza said.

(Because of this, there should be no more backlog by July 1 of this year... we can see, we're on track with this.)

The LTO earlier announced that it would start releasing plastic card driver's licenses on April 15.

The resumption of the issuance of plastic driver's licenses came after the Court of Appeals (CA) lifted the injunction order which prevented the agency from receiving plastic cards.

Last October, the LTO said it was producing one million license plates per month amid its backlog of 80,000 plates at the time. Based on LTO’s estimate, the demand for motor vehicle plates was around 2,000 vehicles a day. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
