'Kiping' mothers of Lucban receive free med exams from GMA Kapuso Foundation
Ahead of the Pahiyas Festival, “kiping” makers in Lucban, Quezon received free breast examinations, pap smears and Human papillomavirus (HPV) screenings from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.
Sheirley Zurbano, one of the “kiping” makers and a mother, said she earns five pesos for each of the colorful leaves commonly used to adorn the houses for the annual festival. She also uses the extra earnings for her psoriasis treatment.
“Gaya ko po na may psoriasis, ang kalaban po niyan ay stress at panahon. Tulad ngayon, mainit, 'yun ang nakaka-trigger,” Sheirley said in a 24 Oras report on Monday.
(People with psoriasis battle stress and weather. Right now the hot weather triggers my condition.)
Aside from the medical examination, the women beneficiaries also received free haircuts and appliances via a raffle draw.
Sheirley also received free medicine for psoriasis.
“Sa ating mga kababaihan na may edad 21 years and pataas, makapagpa-pap smear po tayo yearly, ganun din po ang self-breast examination. Ito po ay ginagawa seven days after your menstruation,” Dr. Lorelie Salonga, FPOGS, MPA, said.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to GMA Kapuso Foundation.
“Kami po ay lubos na nagpapasalamat sa GMA Kapuso Foundation at nabigyan kami ng pagpapahalaga, ang aming mga ina na magki-kiping, sa inyo pong mga regalo at ngayong buwan ng mga ina,” Sharon Oracion, a beneficiary, said.
