New mobile radar can be deployed in the WPS -Air Force
The Philippine Air Force's (PAF's) newly acquired mobile surveillance radar system could be deployed in the West Philippine Sea, Jun Veneracion reported Monday on 24 Oras.
The TPS-P14ME mobile surveillance radar was part of the P5.5 billion defense contract the country had entered into with Japan.
“It adds to our scope of domain awareness particularly in the aerial domain. It adds eyes, kumbaga nadadagan tayo ng mata,” said Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr.
When needed, the radar system can be transferred to any part of the country - even to the West Philippine Sea where it can detect aircraft and ships entering Philippine territory.
"Well it's possible that we can also deploy it in areas of the West Philippine Sea given that we have a platform that can accommodate its size and its weight," said Air Force spokesperson Colonel Ma. Consuelo Castillo.
"It will play a significant role in bolstering the Philippine Air Force's capabilities in maintaining situational awareness in our air space, ensuring that we maintain a watchful eye on the horizon for potential threats," added PAF Commanding General Lieutenant General Stephen Parreño. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
