Imelda Marcos feeling much better — Bongbong
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday said his mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, is now recovering.
“My mother is feeling much better,” the President said in a social media post.
“I visited her last night after arriving from Melbourne and she was awake, alert, and even up at midnight,” he said.
Last Monday, Senator Imee Marcos, the eldest child of the former first lady, told reporters in a text message that her 94-year-old mother was hospitalized.
"Inospital na namin [for] close monitoring (We brought her to the hospital for close monitoring)... Suspected pneumonia as she has been having fever [and] cough on [and] off. Given her age, we [have to] take [maximum] precautions," the senator said.
Later in the day, the President said his mother was "suffering from slight pneumonia and is running a fever."
"She has been put on a course of antibiotics and the doctors are confident that this will relieve her fever. She is in good spirits, has no difficulty breathing and is resting well," said President Marcos, who was in Melbourne at the time for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Australia Special Summit.
Promptly upon returning from Melbourne, the President's convoy was spotted at the St. Luke's Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City, according to a report on 24 Oras.
Hospital security was tight when the President arrived past midnight Thursday. The convoy left after several minutes. In his latest post on Thursday afternoon, the President said his mother's fever has been confirmed to be "gradually subsiding" and that "she is on the path to recovery."
"We've decided to keep her in the hospital until she finishes her prescribed course of antibiotic treatment. This measure will also afford her the necessary rest and continuous medical supervision," the President said.
"Thank you for your concerns and well-wishes during this time,” he said.
