Videos of rat, bed bugs prompt inspection at NAIA
The Manila International Airport Authority ordered an inspection of all NAIA terminals after videos of bed bugs and a rat went viral.
A passenger bound for Singapore on Friday posted a video of a rat running along the ceiling light fixtures at NAIA3’s Gate 102.
“I told them already to go and take a look at that particular area or somewhere there, somewhere na sinasabi nila. We’re trying to see around, mag-ikot,” MIAA General Manager Eric Ines told GMA Integrated News in a phone interview.
Ines says they are considering food concessionaires as the likely reason for the presence of the rat.
“There’s so many concessionaires and restaurants, no? Most likely,” he said.
Ines has also ordered a review of NAIA’s contracts with pest control companies.
“Any non-adherence to what was really agreed on during that time, sabi ko ire-revoke ko yan,” Ines warned.
But Ines assured passengers that NAIA terminals are cleaned daily.
“Every day. Every nonpeak hour. Usually past midnight,” he explained.
Ines called on passengers to alert NAIA personnel if they saw pests inside the airport.
“We have terminal managers. We have a desk there that can inform the terminal managers. Bawat terminal, may mga naka-deploy rin na mga response teams yan 24/7,” he added. —NB, GMA Integrated News
