Chinese fugitive nabbed at NAIA

The Bureau of Immigration intercepted a Chinese fugitive attempting to board a flight to China last February 14.

In a Tuesday statement, the BI said that 36-year-old Zhang Xianfa was spotted attempting to board a flight to Guangzhou, China at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.

BI officers identified the fugitive using the BI’s database of aliens with existing derogatory records.

Based on the bureau's data, a deportation order was issued against Zhang in May 2023 for being an undesirable alien.

The Chinese government had been seeking Zhang's and 15 other Chinese nationals' deportation for their crimes in China.

“[The] respondents violated the terms and conditions of their visa being fugitives from justice. Their presence in the Philippines poses a risk to the public interest,” read the BI Board of Commissioners’ deportation order against Zhang and 15 others.

Zhang was detained at a BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa pending deportation to Beijing.

He was also been included in the immigration blacklist and barred from re-entry in the Philippines. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
