Acorda reviewing proposed measure on PNP reform
Philippine National Police chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. said Thursday that he is in close coordination with lawmakers as regards the proposed measure on reforming the PNP.
During the PNP command conference led by President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr., the Chief Executive reminded the organization to ensure that their proposed amendments to the PNP Reform and Reorganization Bill would be included in the final version.
Acorda told Marcos that he has been given the opportunity to review the measure.
''They are now giving me [the] opportunity to review the Senate version before the (bicameral conference). And they are asking me to write a letter to include all the provisions that we wanted rectified from this Senate version of the (reorganization) bill,” Acorda said.
The Senate had unanimously approved a proposed bill seeking to institutionalize organizational reforms to the police organization. It is one of the priority legislations of the Marcos administration.
For its part, it was in August of last year when the House of Representatives approved on third and final reading the proposed law restructuring the PNP, creating additional offices, and appropriating funds.—RF, GMA Integrated News
