Comelec all set for voter registration on February 12


The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it is expecting at least three million Filipinos to register as voters nationwide, according to Sandra Aguinaldo's report on "24 Oras."

“All systems go na at talaga po magsisimula na ang voters registration come February 12, 2024,” said Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco in a zoom interview. 

(It's all systems go, and voter registration will begin on February 12, 2024.)

All Comelec offices will hold activities to celebrate National Voter's Day and to promote and encourage voter registration awareness.

Comelec earlier said around 170 malls across the country are expected to host its Register Anywhere Project for the voter registration ahead of the 2025 national and local elections.

“Kahit po 17 years old pa lang kayo ngayon, pero by May 12, 2025, o yung second Monday of May po na yan, ay 18 na po kayo, pwede na po kayong magparehistro. At tatanggapin din po namin yung inyong school ID at yung inyong library card. Basta ito, again, meron pong pangalan, pirma, birthday at larawan po ninyo,” Laudiangco said. 

(Even if you are only 17 years old now, but by May 12, 2025, or the second Monday of May, you will be 18, you can register. We will also accept your school ID and library card. It must contain your name, signature, birthday, and picture.)

Upon registration, applicants must also present one of the following government-issued identification cards (ID) bearing their signature:

  • National Identification (ID) card under the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys)
  • Postal ID card
  • PWD ID card
  • Student's ID card or library card, signed by the school authority
  • Senior Citizen's ID card
  • Land Transportation Office (LTO) Driver's License/Student Permit
  • National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Clearance
  • Philippine Passport
  • Social Security System (SSS)/Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) or other Unified Multi-Purpose ID card
  • Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) ID card
  • License issued by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC)
  • Certificate of Confirmation issued by the National Commission on
  • Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) in case of members of ICCs or IPs
  • Barangay Identification/ Certification with photo or
  • Any other government-issued valid ID

“Kung sakali man pong wala, pwede po kayong kumuha ng barangay certification, basta po yung barangay certification, again, merong pangalan, larawan, merong pirma, at merong address at birthday po ninyo,” Laudiangco added. 

(If you have none of these IDs, you can get a barangay certification as long as the certification has your name, photo, signature, address, and birthday.)

Meanwhile, the poll body reminded that double and multiple registrants may face an election offense case with a jail term of one to three years.
