Marcos releases P265M to aid Davao floods, landslides victims

The Office of the President released P265 million to assist those affected by the floods and landslides that hit Davao region.

''From the reports that we have had, I think that we are doing all right in the food— the provision of food packs, etc. But as the Secretary (Rex Gatchalian) was explaining, it gets to the point na hindi lang pagkain ang kailangan ng tao. They need to buy other things para sa kanilang household,'' President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said during the situation briefing in Davao City Wednesday.

''That's why the ECTs (emergency cash transfer) have become very important and that's why I released P265 million to make sure that the pace of the response is immediate at maramdaman kaagad ng tao, meron kaagad silang tulong. Maramdaman nila kaagad na meron silang gagamitin sa pangangailangan nila,'' he added.

The number of fatalities due to floods and landslides in Davao Region has increased to 21, according to the provincial disaster risk reduction and management offices (PDRRMOs) on Tuesday.

The Davao de Oro PDRRMO had said 13 people died while nine people were injured in the province. Of the 13 fatalities, four were reported each in New Bataan and Marasugan, two each in Pantukan and Monkayo, and one in Maco.

The number of individuals affected by the Northeast Monsoon and the trough of a low pressure area has breached to more than one million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
