Magnitude-5.4 quake jolts Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that a magnitude-5.4 earthquake on Wednesday struck Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte at the northernmost tip of the Luzon mainland.
The quake, which was recorded at 12:05 p.m., was of tectonic origin. Its effects were felt all the way up to the neighboring provinces of Ilocos Sur, Cagayan, and Isabela.
Phivolcs initially reported its magnitude at 5.9, but later revised it to 5.4. The agency also adjusted the reported depth to 30 kms. from 10 kms.
Based on instrumental intensities, the earthquake registered at Intensity VI in Pasquin, Ilocos Norte; Intensity V in Laoag City; Intensity IV in Sinait, Ilocos Sur and Claveria, Cagayan; Intensity III in Gonzaga, Cagayan and Ilagan City in Isabela; and Intensity II in Solsona, Ilocos Norte and Peñablanca, Cagayan.
Meanwhile, reported intensities were Intensity V in Adams, Bacarra, Bangui, Burgos, Dingras, Dumalneg, Laoag City, Pagudpud, Pasuquin, Sarrat, and Vintar, all in Ilocos Norte, as well as Lacub town in Abra.
Intensity IV was reported in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur; Intensity III in Ilagan City, Isabela; and Intensity II in Peñablanca, Cagayan. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
