Marcos to keep VP Sara as DepEd chief

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. will keep Vice President Sara Duterte as his secretary of education despite the recent speeches against him by members of her family.

Marcos made the remarks in a news briefing in Vietnam where he is wrapping up his state visit.

Former President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday warned Marcos that he might suffer the same fate as the late former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., who was ousted from power in 1986.

Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, on the other hand, called on Marcos to resign if the latter has neither love nor aspirations for the country.

The statements were made amid a controversial people's initiative campaign for Charter change, which the Dutertes oppose.

Mayor Duterte has since apologized for his statement, according to Senator Imee Marcos, the president's sister.

Vice President Duterte believed that her younger sibling's dare was made out of “brotherly love'' as she revealed the “despicable treatment" she has been receiving from within Marcos’ circle.

“Sa kabila ng lahat, hindi ako kailanman panghihinaan ng loob (I will never be discouraged despite these developments). I will stay true to my work at the Department of Education, unless the President says otherwise,” she said in a statement on Monday.
