House affirms support for Marcos after ex-Pres. Duterte tirades

The House of Representatives on Monday adopted a resolution expressing unequivocal support to President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

House Resolution 1557 was adopted after former President Rodrigo Duterte called Marcos bangag (high on illegal drugs) and someone seeking to perpetuate himself in power at the expense of the Filipino people.

“The House of Representatives fully supports and adheres to the call of His Excellency President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to bring the country toward a Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) and rekindle the hopes of the Filipino people for genuine development and better tomorrow," the resolution read.

"The Bagong Pilipinas is a strong testament to President Marcos, Jr.’s commitment to undertake reform to restore public trust and embark on a transformative journey where government services and financial assistance programs are accessible to every Filipino regardless of creed or religion,” it added.

The resolution said that the presence of government leaders during the Bagong Pilipinas launch on Sunday, January 28, reflects a shared commitment to the cause of nation-building.

The event was graced by President Marcos, his wife Liza, Speaker Martin Romualdez, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte, among other cabinet members.

“This [call for Bagong Pilipinas] is a collective effort that involves every sector of our society, and each personal commitment to positive change is a vital building block for the collective progress of the nation: Now, therefore, be it resolved by the House of Representatives, to express its strong and unqualified support of the House of Representatives to His Excellency, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., for his leadership and sincere commitment to steer the country toward a Bagong Pilipinas through responsive and efficient service for the benefit of the Filipino people,” the resolution said.

The same measure said the Bagong Pilipinas represents the overarching theme of the Marcos administration’s brand of governance characterized by “principled, accountable, and dependable government reinforced by unified institutions of society.”

These ideals, the resolution added, are reflected in the 2023-2028 Philippine Development Plan.

Aside from former President Duterte's comments, his son and Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte also commented that Marcos, Jr. should resign over a lack of love for the country and aspirations for the nation.
