Public warned vs FB page posing as DOTr account
The Department of Transportation on Friday issued a warning to the public about a Facebook page that pretends to be an official channel of the DOTr.
In a statement, the DOTr said the ''Manila Metro'' Facebook page is not an official account of the agency and does not represent AF Payments Inc., owner of Beep Cards.
“DOTr does not endorse nor support any unofficial social media account, including the Manila Metro FB page. Any information, statements, or representations made on this page or through associated comments are not sanctioned by DOTr and its agencies. It does not reflect the official views, policies, or position of the Department,” the statement read.
In a separate statement, DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways and MRT3 Officer-in-Charge Jorjette Aquino warned riders of possible fraudulent online transactions due to the page’s offer of a “12-Month Free Subway Rides Card.”
“The DOTr, DOTr-MRT3, and the LRTA never request credit card details in any of their interactions with the public. We urge commuters to verify all online information through the official websites and social media channels of DOTr, DOTr-MRT-3, and LRTA, as there may be malicious parties with fraudulent intentions attempting to deceive the public,” Aquino said.
The DOTr said it reserves the right to take legal action against unauthorized use of the agency’s name or likeness for deceptive purposes. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
