Marcos greets BARMM on its 5th anniversary
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday greeted the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) as it commemorated its fifth founding anniversary.
“We join our brothers and sisters in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao in celebrating its 5th anniversary!” said Marcos Jr. in an Instagram post.
“Recognizing BARMM's indispensable role in our Bagong Pilipinas, our commitment to close collaboration remains strong for just and lasting peace and prosperity, not only in Mindanao but throughout the nation,” he said.
Established in 2019, the BARMM was created under the Bangsamoro Organic Law, replacing the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
It is composed of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi and 63 barangays of North Cotabato.
The autonomous region is currently being led by the 80-man Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), who were appointed by the President.
The BARMM is set to hold its first-ever parliamentary elections in 2025.
