VP Sara: I haven't received any document on ICC probe

Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday said she has yet to receive any document indicating that she's a respondent in the International Criminal Court's (ICC) investigation into her father's drug war campaign.

VP Duterte, however, pointed out that her lawyers are prepared in case she gets involved in the probe.

"Wala pa 'kong natatanggap na document na secondary respondent ako sa ICC. But in any event, handa naman na ang mga lawyers na gumawa ng hakbang kung sakali man na merong ganon," she said in an ambush interview in Pasig City.

(I haven't received any document yet saying that I'm a secondary respondent in the ICC. But in any event, my lawyers are ready.)

Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV earlier said a warrant of arrest is expected to be issued soon against VP Duterte's father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, as well as other respondents in connection with the ICC investigation.

Asked if she has already talked about this with her father, VP Duterte said, "Hindi. Hindi kami nagkikita at hindi kami nag-uusap ni Former President Duterte."

(No. My father and I have neither seen nor talked with each other.)

"I'm sure alam na niya 'yan kung anong gagawin niya kasi (I'm sure he already knows what to do because) he's a lawyer as well," she added.

VP Duterte on Tuesday said she will only face any accusations linking her to the Davao Death Squad (DDS) before a Philippine court, lamenting that it was only when she was elected vice president that her name was linked to the controversial group.

"Haharapin ko ang anumang akusasyon laban sa akin (I will face any accusation against me). But I will only face any charge against me before a Filipino judge — and only before a Filipino court," she said.

This was the same assertion her father made regarding the prospect of being tried before the ICC.

The scope of the ICC probe were killings that transpired from November 2011 until March 2019, including those killings made by Davao Death Squad when the elder Duterte was still the mayor of Davao City before assuming presidency in June 2016. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
